SIMPSON DESERT ITINERARY

Boomerang Adventures offers two great ways to join us for the Simpson Desert. We run passenger tours in modern four wheel drive vehicles, as well as a tag-a-long option for those who wish to take their own vehicle.

Day 1
We head out today from Sydney and travel through some great country before arriving in Bourke. Here we will meet our Tag-a-long Passengers. A quick meet and great before heading out for a meal together to discuss our great outback adventure that lies ahead. Accommodation will be at Kidman's Camp just outside Bourke. It will be pretty early to bed, as we have an early start tomorrow.

Day 2
Today we get straight to the red dirt, as we head off towards the Queensland border. We will make it to Hungerford on the border for lunch, and have to head through the dog fence. After this, we head towards Noccundra. This is a beautiful place with only a pub for a residence. We will get ourselves a feed here tonight and enjoy a night with other travellers.

Day 3
We have a pretty easy day todays we make our way to Innamincka. We will stop at Nappa Maree Station to see the dig Tree before heading to Burke's grave. After setting up camp on the banks of the Cooper, we will get the fire going for one of the most beautiful campsites on our tour.

Day 4
Today we make our way up past Cordillo Downs, one of the largest stations in the area. Here we will see the remains of the largest shearing shed in the country. You will be amazed at the numbers when you look at what went through this shed at its prime.  From here we will make our way along a pretty rough road before arriving in Birdsville. After arriving we will have time to take in this great Outback town. We will have a meal at the famous Birdsville pub before making our way back to camp.

Day 5
Today is the day we have all been waiting for. We head into the mighty Simpson Desert. First stop will be at the largest dune of the trip....Big Red. From here we will head out into the sunset, past Eyre Creek. We will stop at Poppell's Corner before making away a few kilometres on to our first camp site. We will be out under a blanket of stars, with only a few dingo's around. This is an amazing experience.

Day 6
More desert driving today as we head way into the heart of the Simpson. As we travel the vegetation is always changing and you may notice the dunes are becoming a little closer together. Another great night awaits as we camp out at our second camp.

Day 7
We will conclude our crossing today. We will stop at Purnie Bore for lunch and take in the amazing birdlife before completing our trip for the day at the mind blowing Dalhousie hot springs. There is no better way to finish your crossing than to wash off the dust in the evening in this incredible natural boy of water.

Day 8
From Dalhousie we will make our way through an amazing outback track which makes its way towards Oodnadatta. We will stop here at the pink road house for some pictures before continuing on to William Creek. Tonight we will celebrate our crossing with a cold beer and a meal at the famous pub.

Day 9
We will start the day for those who want to with a flight over Lake Eyre (additional cost). Once our jet-setters have returned we will make our way out to Lake Eyre at Halligans Point. Here we get a chance to take in the enormity of this place. We will proceed from here back to the main road and have lunch at Lake Eyre South, another great vantage point from which to view this place. After lunch we will make our way to Marree where we will camp at the pub.

Day 10
Up early this morning as we want to make the most of the day. We will stop at Furina to look at one of the most complete ruins settlement left in Australia. It is great to wander around here. With so much still around, you can get a real feel for what life may have been like back in the late 1800's. Not far from here we will have some morning tea at the ochre pits. See the different array of colours and the earth. We still have more to do today as we travel along the Strezlecki Track towards Camerons Corner.

Day 11
Today we will make our way through corner country as we head to While Cliffs. We will stop at Milparinka, another amazing town that flourished back in the late 1800s/early 1900s. Tonight we will camp underground as we visit the opal mining town of White Cliffs.

Day 12
We will have time this morning to look around White Cliffs and see some of the great sites of the area. From here we head back to the black top road and make our way through Wilcannia and Cobar before staying our last night at Lake Cargelico.

Day 13
We see some great country on our way back to Sydney today. It is a good way to finish our great journey together.
