OVERVIEW

The Great Barrier Reef is an area that is well-renowned, and a place that is visited by millions of people each year. Boomerang Adventures has another great adventure visiting this wonderful destination. Again, we try and keep away from the tourist areas. Our trip begins with a five day expedition on the Thornesborne Trail, Hinchinbrook Island. National Park status has seen Hinchinbrook Island remain relatively uninhabited, and in pristine condition.

Australia’s largest island National Park, Hinchinbrook Island, is separated from the mainland by the deep, narrow, mangrove-fringed Hinchinbrook Channel, scoured from sand and mud by strong tidal currents. Rising to 1121 metres in the centre of the island are the jagged battlements of Mt Bowen, largest in the chain of rugged granite crags forming the backbone of the island’s southern half. This backdrop makes for a brilliant adventure.

After our time here, we head back to Cairns and explore some of the well-known tourist locations. We take students out to Green Island, and up to Palm Cove. We also take the Skyrail and Scenic Railway up and back from the Kuranda Markets.

This is certainly a great part of Australia, and one well worth exploring. Again, this can be tailored to be used as a Gold Duke of Edinburgh Expedition, or just a great experience for your students looking for adventure.
